(AUSTRALIA) - There have been recent rumors in regards to diamonds discovered at Tiger's diamond prospect at Springfield in South Australia. Tiger International Resources wishes to clarify that diamonds were previously found at the main site on Tiger's 5,400-sq.km property. A total of 120 diamonds were discovered. This was recently confirmed by the Mines & Energy Resources department of Australia who state, "In the Springfield Basin, 128 diamonds and fragments have been recovered from conglomerates of Permian age. Garnet indicators with a kelyphytic ring suggest very little transport and hence a local source" (MESA Information Sheet, G7, 1997). The diamonds are clear and angular, suggesting they had fragmented from larger diamonds that may be nearby. In 1983, Freeport recovered these lower- grade diamonds by passing concentrates over a vibrating grease table. Concerns were raised regarding the efficiency of the recovery equipment, after the tailings from the bulk samples were re-examined. Nineteen additional diamonds were then recovered from those tailings. It was later determined that this inefficient plant recovered less than 50% of the located diamonds, which helps shed light on why earlier exploration efforts ceased. Tiger's consulting geologist concludes these diamonds were recovered close to the source at the Springfield Basin. Dr. Will's report also concludes that previous exploration work demonstrated the Springfield Basin is diamondiferous. This geological conclusion warrants further exploration at Springfield. Tiger recently announced it has obtained a larger, more efficient recovery plant, scheduled to arrive on site in mid-May, that should help minimize, or eliminate, the recovery problems faced during the previous exploration efforts by another company. Details of that earlier discovery are as follows:
